Ember Days

Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of this week are the Fall Ember Days. Catholics between the ages of 21 and 59 are bound to the Laws of Fast; those who have reached their 7th year must abstain from meat on Friday. All may eat meat but once, at the principal meal, on Wednesday and Saturday. The Ember Days were instituted for a good harvest and to draw down God’s blessings upon the September ordinations. Pray for priests!

Holy Hour in honor of the Holy Cross and the Seven Sorrows / Ladies’ Evening of Recollection

This Friday we are having a Holy Hour to honor the Holy Cross and the Seven Sorrows beginning at 5:00 PM with Exposition, Meditated Rosary and Devotions. At 5:45 PM the Sacred Heart Novena and Benediction will be followed by a Sermon. Holy Mass will be offered at approximately 6:10 PM. Following Holy Mass, at approximately 7:00 PM we encourage all the ladies of the parish to join us for our Ladies’ Evening of Recollection with a Spiritual Talk and opportunity for questions and discussion. Confessions will be heard before the talk. Refreshments conclude the evening.

Lessons in the Catholic Faith

Bishop Dolan and Father Cekada are now offering a systematic study of the Catholic Faith – for all – especially converts and interested non-Catholics, or Catholics who would simply like to learn more about their Holy Faith. Please invite, and even accompany, anyone who may be interested. Join us Saturdays at 3:00 PM.

Feed the Hungry!

Ladies and/or gentlemen of the parish, our priests are looking for a few good women or men who would be willing, now and again, to cook a meal for three priests and drop it off at church on either Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. Please call the Church Office if you can help. 645-4212.

October 8th – Rosary Sunday / Annual Rosary Confraternity Communion Breakfast

Our annual Rosary Sunday blessing of roses to be carried in the procession may be purchased before the 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM Masses. The Rosary Confraternity will lead the outdoor procession after the 9:00 AM Mass.

All Rosary Confraternity members are invited to attend the High Mass in a body, wear their rosary medal and walk in the procession, as well as attend the breakfast afterwards.

The Annual Rosary Confraternity Communion Breakfast follows the High Mass and Procession. Mr. Bernard Hall will be our speaker this year, talking about the Rosary’s Background and the Church’s Prayer: The Divine Office. Join us for a delightful breakfast after the Procession and an interesting and informative talk and a chance to socialize. Purchase your tickets from Confraternity members at $7 per person, and $20 per family.

Pray for the Sick

Please remember to keep John Wiesman in your prayers. He is home recovering from serious surgery. Betty Richter (last Sunday’s 90th birthday girl) had a bad weekend, and needs your prayers. Also remember all of our sick and shut-in in your prayers this week.

Summer Camp Pictures

If you haven’t seen them yet, check out the “picture gallery” bulletin board in Helfta Hall. Connie Wozny has some really wonderful pictures of the children who took part in the summer camp.
