Septuagesima

February 4, 2007 – Septuagesima – St. Andrew Corsini

Today is Septuagesima Sunday, the opening of our Pre-Lent Season, during which we pray and plan for a good Lent.

The Blessing of Throats in honor of St. Blaise is available at the communion rail after all Masses.

Home Candles, a powerful sacramental blessed on the Feast of the Purification, are available in the vestibule. Suggested minimum donation is $4.00 per box.

A Business Meeting for the Holy Name Society follows the 11:30 AM Mass.

Alter Christus

The “little church” is in the vestibule this morning. The ushers are collecting alms for the Alter Christus Confraternity to support priests who might not otherwise receive help. Please be generous.

Sorrowful Mother Novena

Our annual Novena to the Sorrowful Mother, with the blessing of the sick, continues this Friday evening after the 5:45 PM Mass. Call or write in to the office the first names of those for whom you would like us to pray, as well as the names of your sick.

Infant of Prague

Our novena in honor of the Divine Infant, Day VII, continues this Friday at 5:35 PM. Come with confidence to honor our loving little King.

New Servers

Every Catholic boy should learn how to serve God at the altar. It is both a privilege and a duty. We are especially in need of servers for the 11:30 AM Mass. Sunday Serving Classes commence on February 11th at 10:40 AM. The following boys are kindly asked to present themselves in the Sacristy: Keith, Aaron, Michael, and Nicholas Bohman; Zachary and Caleb Eilerman; Michael, Andrew, & Connor Ribar; Andrew Prell, and any other boys I’ve missed (Fathers are also welcome).

St. Gertrude the Great Literary Wine Tasting

Saturday, February 17th, at 5:30 PM we are offering a Literary Wine Tasting and appetizer buffet. The wine selections will be similar to those mentioned in classical literary pieces such as Hamlet, the Three Musketeers, the Canterbury Tales, the Cask of Amontillado, the Great Gatsby, and Beowulf. A classical literature presentation by Margaret Kinnet will accompany each selection.

The cost is $25 per person and the cut-off date for reservation is February 10th, so that the wines may be ordered in appropriate quantities. Please contact the church office at 645-4214 for reservations.

Next Sunday

Next Sunday is the Fist Sunday of the month. The Blessing of the Sick follows all Masses, followed by the Blessing of Religious Articles. Vespers are at 4:45 PM with Benediction at approximately 5:25 PM.

Set your Missal
