The starlings have returned. I wondered when they would, this great unruly noisy chorus which will somehow manage impressive air shows worthy of something you’d see at Dayton, before they join the other snow birds in the south.
The alert reader today will notice a new look for the bulletin. No, we ‘re not changing, only allowrng a little lead time for our latest church secretary to learn the system. Richard Zbilicki succeeds wife Gloria in the office. We are grateful to her and to Lorri Moore and indeed to the whole succession of secretaries who have produced a bulletin which is really more of a weekly Catholic magazine for our local faithful, and Catholics throughout the world.
We’ll be restoring content as our new secretary grows comfortable with the system. In the meantime, do keep him and all of our Gertrudian workers in your prayers. God bless them for all they do, these Franciscans of ours. The week before any, high event is a busy one here. Grass was being cut, flowers arranged, meals planned, ceremonies and music practiced, weeds pulled, lights restored, sermons composed…. well, you get the idea. (Ft. Cekada would add “fly-overs” being scheduled, but I’ll leave that to the starlings.) May Our Lord accept the homage of our service, and you derive encouragement and edification as we all participate in our Forty Hours, worshipping our Eucharistic King.
Halloween is a pretty sinful night anymore, so I thought we’d better keep the Mass and Benediction Friday night, and of course there’s the fast and abstinence. Remember First Saturday is the Holy Day, with Masses at 6:30, 7:30, and 9 AM. Next Sunday we look forward to the children with their Saints’ costumes at the High Mass, and the party afterwards.
Caravaggio, is grateful for the starlings, as rabbit is out of season. I am grateful for you all, as we join in joyful homage to Our King in the Blessed sacrament, unchanged and unchanging, who deigns to dwell in our midst. If only He would reign. Viva Christo Rey!
