✠ The Bishop’s Corner ✠
Good St. Giles, Holy Helper, helpfully ushered in some delightful early Autumn weather right along with his feast on September 1. This certainly made our First Friday and First Saturday devotions a little less penitential, especially after the long heat wave. And of course, it made for a delightful holiday weekend! Hope you enjoy a nice Labor Day tomorrow. We always dedicate the day, along with all of the new season’s work, to good St. Joseph.

Fr. Cekada had a rough week, very weak with chemo complications, but is getting better as I write this. It is edifying to note that even amidst discomfort and doctor visits, he never loses his sense of humor. This week our Summer Novena for his recovery concludes with Tuesday devotions. Thanks to all of you who made all thirteen weeks!

School starts with the Votive Mass of the Holy Ghost on Wednesday. Our Blessed Lady’s Birthday cheers us on Thursday with its charming celebration. After her Solemn Mass we process out to the grotto to bless seeds and the little pansy seedlings in her honor. We conclude with a proper party with birthday cake singing. Be sure to bring the children. You are all most welcome.

While we were enjoying beautiful days last week, our Florida friends were under siege with the hurricane. I hope the damage was not too great, and that everyone was safe. Please keep them in your prayers.

Last week an appeal for prayers for Fr. Siordia went out. It seems he was in danger of losing his church, the celebrated home of Our Lord of the Expiration. At some point years ago each church had to be registered with the government by a legal entity. It turns out that the Diocese of Cuernavaca registered the church just days before the traditionalist National League did, and both have been on the books ever since. There was talk of different legal strategies, as well as the fear of violence. More prayers, please!

This month two of our young men will be going to Florida to try their vocations. Thomas Simpson will be entering Most Holy Trinity Seminary, and Brendan Lotarski a newly established brotherhood program. We are very proud of them both and send them off with every good wish and prayer. Do pray for vocations. This is our future, and our children’s future.

The Sisters are preparing a fine catechism program for your children. Send them! More enrollment forms are available in the vestibule. Classes start next Sunday.

Quite a bit happening, as is fitting for September. May Our Lady of Sorrows turn yours into joy by persevering prayer.
