✠ The Bishop’s Corner ✠
This week comes August’s highpoint. “Who is she ascends so high?” one of the old hymns asks. We answer with enthusiasm, Mary Immaculate, Ark of the Covenant. “St. Lawrence’s Tears,” the Perseid meteor shower, peaked this weekend. Next week comes the rare solar eclipse, just before the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And anytime, or maybe never, could be a nuclear war with North Korea. Even a conventional war would be devastating and entail great loss of life.

When one of the Bushes was casting about for a country to invade before he settled on Iraq, I always wondered why he didn’t go for North Korea. Well, I think we know the answer. But now, in this tragic hour for mankind, we know that we have the answer. It’s in our pocket. Won’t you get yours out and pray it with us for peace this evening?

Yes, by all means come tonight to West Chester. Come back to church on Tuesday for the Holy Day. Make a day of it if you can. Consecrate this day and yourself to Mary’s Immaculate Heart. Be a peacemaker.

The McFathers have come back from Florida. Fr. Lehtoranta was busy all last week writing sermons and visiting the elderly and the sick. Joan Landry is now in a nursing home. She says it’s not too bad, but she does miss her home and her son. I know she would appreciate a visit. Her address is: Bradford Place, 1302 Millville Ave., Hamilton, OH 45013.

Some of the nave statues were looking a little wobbly, and I had pictures of one of them crashing down on someone. So, we took them down temporarily in order to reinforce the stands.

The Sisters are planning another Sunday School year. It will soon be time! Exciting. Sharon Patton, who was so devoted a teacher—for so MANY years, writes with her thanks for your kind gifts, prayers and good wishes.

God bless you all, and grant us peace!
