Sunday Within the Octave of Christmas

December 31, 2006 – Within the Octave of Christmas – St. Sylvester I, PC

1:15 PM: First Vespers of the Circumcision and Benediction, with New Years Eve Devotions.

No 5:45 Evening Mass.

Forty Hours Devotions

Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week, January 5-7, the Forty Hours Devotion will be held at St. Gertrude the Great Church. Please plan to spend some time with Our Lord on these days. There are many hours when adorers are needed.

The Forty Hours’ Devotion honors the time Our Lord’s Adorable Body passed in the Holy Sepulchre, and obtains for the Church, as well as for each soul, all of the pressing needs of the day by this most efficacious prayer. Please plan to attend one or more of the special Masses, as well as to take an hour of Adoration where it is most needed: Saturday afternoon from 3:00-5:00, and Sunday afternoon from 1:00-5:00.

The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed after the 5:45 PM Mass on Friday evening. The moving and very touching Procession and Litany of the Saints conclude the opening ceremonies, and are repeated for the Mass of Reposition at 9:00 AM Sunday.

Fr. Cekada and our newly ordained Fr. Federico Palma will be the celebrants of the three solemn Masses this year. Fr. Cekada will celebrate the Friday evening and Saturday morning Masses, and Fr. Palma will celebrate the 9:00 AM Mass Sunday, so the Solemn Masses will not run much longer than a regular Sunday High Mass.

Next Sunday

Next Sunday is New Year’s Eve. First Vespers of the Circumcision and Benediction are at 1:15 PM. Please note that there will be no 5:45 Evening Mass.
