Low Sunday

¶April 15, 2007 – Low Sunday.

Today is Quasimodo Sunday, also known as Low Sunday and Sunday in Albis (White). The Blessing of Religious Articles follows all Masses.

¶The Paschal Sacraments
First Holy Communion testing, with a spiritual talk and examination of conscience, and First Confessions are scheduled for this Saturday, April 21st, beginning at 10:00 AM. All children who wish to participate must be registered in advance with the office, and must already have submitted a copy of their Baptismal certificate. Those getting ready for First Confession need to know all the questions in the First Communion Catechism, especially the Ten Commandments. Testing will be based on the New St. Joseph Catechism.

• Obligatory Day of Recollection for all First Communion Children: Thursday, May 24th.
Confirmation: Saturday, May 26th.

First Holy Communion: Sunday, June 10th.
Parents, please remember, you must submit to the Office the Baptismal certificates of children not baptized at St. Gertrude the Great. If your child is not enrolled in the school or Sunday School, please let us know if you are planning on bringing him to be tested in April. Unless we have the Baptismal certificate, we will be unable to do the necessary testing. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if a child is ready for the Sacraments. Please consult the priest. The Church earnestly desires all children to receive Our Lord as soon as possible.

¶Next Sunday
Next Sunday is the Third Sunday of the Month. The Blessing of Expectant Mothers follows all Masses.
Set your missal: April 22nd. Easter II, with the commemorations of Ss. Soter and Caius, PpMm. Vidi Aquam sung instead of Asperges. Pref: Easter.

¶Knights of the Sacred Heart
Due to Fr. Saavedra’s travel plans, the Knights of the Sacred Heart and St. Angela Merici Girls’ Group will not meet on Monday the 16th. See you on the 23rd!

¶Congratulations…
Our prayers and best wishes to Paul & Lisa McConnell on the baptism of their daughter, Clare Elizabeth, April 7th, at the Easter Vigil service.

¶Prayers Please…
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sue Mincey, the aunt of Patricia Patton, buried from church this past Friday. Remember, too, the repose of the soul of Martha Brueggemann who formerly attended our church and is a dear relative to many of our faithful.

¶Our First Annual Jog-A-Thon
Saturday, April 21st, the Beckett Ridge Krogers is allowing us to again set up tables to solicit sponsors. We need parental supervision to supervise these tables. We need parents to participate with the children and take an hour or two to help out.
Two more weeks! Saturday, April 28th, 9:00 AM our First Annual Jog-a-Thon at Lakota’s Freshman Track. This can be a really great fund raiser if everyone takes part, and a wonderful source of outside revenue. Need more flyers? You’ll will find them in the Book Store.

Ladies, join us this Friday, April 20th, for an Evening of Recollection with 5:45 PM Mass, Benediction, and a Spiritual Talk at 7:00 PM with opportunity for questions and discussion. Confessions will be heard before the talk. Refreshments conclude the evening.
