Sunday Catechism Enrollment
Today is the last opportunity for enrollment in our Sunday Catechism program. Registration will be in Helfta Hall following the 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM Masses .

This Week

Labor Day
Labor Day marks the end of summer and the beginning of the Fall labor season. Come to Mass tomorrow at 9:00 AM to honor St. Joseph, Patron of Workers as well as great St. Pius X.

Thirteen Tuesdays of St. Anthony
We are nearing the end of our traditional devotion of the thirteen Tuesdays of St. Anthony. Masses this week are at 11:30 AM and 5:45 PM Come to participate in this powerful devotion.

St. Gertrude the Great School
Another school year begins Wednesday, September 5, promptly at 8:10 AM for grades 1-12. Kindergarten begins on Monday, September 10.
Welcome back students and returning teachers. Welcome also to our new teachers. May this school year be placed under the maternal care of our Blessed Mother.

Nativity of Our Blessed Mother
This Friday, September 7th, we will anticipate the Feast of Our Lady’s Nativity which falls on Saturday. The Blessing of Seeds and Seedlings will take place after the 11:30 AM Votive High Mass. Each child will receive a seedling to plant in Our Lady’s honor.

Following the High Mass and Blessing there will be a Birthday Party for “Baby Mary”. There will be a cake and activities for the children. Please note, All Children, and especially our homeschoolers, are welcome to the festivities for this special early birthday which “announces joy to the world.”

The schedule is as follows:

11:30 AM Votive High Mass of Our Lady, Blessing of Seeds & Seedlings,
followed by Our Lady’s Birthday Party
5:15 PM Confessions & Rosary
5:45 PM Low Mass, Exposition, First Friday Devotions
Adoration continues all night
7:00 PM Parish Potluck
8:00 PM First Friday Holy Hour in Honor of Our Lady’s Nativity
The Intention of the All night Adoration: In Honor of Our Lady’s
Nativity, for all of our teachers and students.

Next Sunday
Next Sunday is the Second Sunday of the Month and the Solemnity of
the Most Holy Name of Mary. Set your missal: Low Mass: Pentecost XV.
Commemoration: St. Peter Claver and St. Gorgonius. High Mass: The
Holy Name of Mary (Sept. 12). Commemoration and last Gospel:
Pentecost XV. Early Vespers and Benediction are at 1:10 PM.

Catechism Classes begin at 10:30 AM –11:20 AM in the school
classrooms. Parents, please have your children observe silence in the
hallways and remember to bring all study materials to class each
week. Remind the children to collect all personal belongings from the
classrooms and Helfta Hall. No gum, food or drink items will be
allowed in the classrooms. Let us all focus on making this the best
catechism year!

Saturday Mass Goers
Now that Summer is drawing to a close, please let us know if you
would prefer that we keep the early Mass schedule (6:30 & 8:00 AM) or
return to the later one (7:30 & 9:00 AM). Thank you, Bishop Dolan

Upcoming Events
•The Annual Church Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 16, 2007
at Sharon Woods Park. The picnic will be held at the Council Bluff
Pavilion following the 11:30 AM Mass until 5:00 PM. Join us for an
afternoon of games (no “search for the keys” included), good food and
great company.

•Men’s Night of Recollection Friday, September 14, 2007 in Helfta
Hall. Mass will be at 5:45 PM with Confessions after the Mass. A
Spiritual talk will be given by Bishop Dolan at 7:00 PM with
refreshments to end the evening.

•Knights of the Sacred Heart and the St. Angela Merici groups will
resume meeting on Monday, September 10th at Sharon Woods Park from
4:15 PM-6:00PM.
