Solemnity of the Seven Sorrows

Did you remember to pray last week for rain? We did, but to be on the safe side, Eldon and Dale watered everything on Wednesday, which was guaranteed to bring rain. Sure enough, I awakened during the night to the sound of a very fine shower of rain. Now, let us continue to pray for timely moisture this Fall, to ensure green lawns once more before Winter.

But, we should pray for good weather for this afternoon’s picnic. (I’m sure Our Lord understands, and is patient with all of our petitions, and their permutations.) Of course, the most important thing is to pray.

Fr. Cekada is heading out to Fr. Zapp’s chapels in California next weekend, to speak about his book, Work of Human Hands. Reviews are being written, and many positive notices have been posted. Have you purchased your copy? This book is a magnificent apostolate for the Mass. Support it, spread it around!

Fr. Ercoli has accepted my invitation to speak at our Rosary Communion Breakfast on October Third. His path to the priesthood will be the theme of his talk. His preparation for ordination, and his priestly apostolate have taken him to many lands. Buy a ticket today for the Rosary Communion Breakfast, and plan to be with us for all of the festivities which make Rosary Sunday so great at St. Gertrude the Great.

Today’s Blessing of the Sick in honor of Our Sorrowful Mother is a fairly recent introduction, but already a beloved custom at our church. May Our Lady bring her Son and both bless you today, and all who cannot be with us.

But do be with is this afternoon at the parish picnic!

May the Sorrows of Mary be your joy,
–Bishop Dolan
