The Bishop’s Note
The highlight of the week for the school children has most certainly been the fire truck! The local fire department came for a surprise inspection last Wednesday morning. Of course, they came in their fire truck and the kids could not resist! They HAD to go out and see it. The crew was very kind to our children, letting them into the driver’s seat, showing them the different compartments, etc. They even had firemen helmets for everyone.

Everyone is sick now. Fr. McKenna mentioned that he can’t remember a time when there has been so much sickness at church and school. I am sure there has been, but it has been a long time. Some have been sick multiple times this year. It is a good way of making reparation and of growing in virtue. How many men and women became saints during a time of illness or convalescence. Say a prayer to the Holy Child Jesus, Doctor of the Sick, for all of our sick and shut-in, not only that they get better, but so that they use their present trials to become saints.

John Seyfried’s wife, Nancy, died this past week. They were married for almost 49 years. Hers was an edifying death as she received the Last Rites very devoutly. It must be quite a consolation to see one’s family member getting the sacraments at the end, knowing that Our Lord has planned this from all eternity for the salvation of that family member. Blessed be God for His goodness and mercy!

Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent
comes this week. Enjoy a little Mardi Gras celebration,
but ask Our Lady for the grace of a good Lenten Season. We will be spending this season with St. Alphonsus Liguori. Below, you will see a list of his books if you are looking for some good sources for spiritual reading and meditation.
